Visual storytelling is the art of using photos, graphics and videos to convey a message to their target publics. This has become even more popular over the past few years. Our culture is one that revolved heavily on visuals. From billboards to ads to Instagram post, brands are becoming more involved in the art of visual storytelling. Visual storytelling is so crucial because it allows the target publics to dive deeper into what they have to say. It helps for publics to fully grasp what the brand and product are all about. I also love the concept of visual storytelling because it allows for the brand to be creative and think outside of the box.
One company that is doing a great job of visual storytelling would be Glossier. I love what the brand stands for and that they stay true to themselves. Right now, they are promoting a new line of products, “Body Hero.” Through this campaign, they are using models of all shapes, sizes and colors. They are using the launch of a new product line to tell the story and spread the word of body positivity.
Not only are they using the art of visual storytelling on their social media, but in print and billboard campaigns as well. Here, you can see some of the photos that they are using on their Instagram to tell the story. I love that they chose body positivity to tell this story because it is such a relevant topic in the media right now. This brand focuses on minimalistic beauty, and I think they are staying true to their message with their campaign and visual storytelling.
I found this infographic about visual storytelling on Pinterest, and I think it does a great job explaining the difference between storytelling and corporate speak. It’s very important to be able to recognize when a brand is genuine in their advertising. It says a lot about the brand.
Lastly, I found this website that gives 10 techniques to remember for visual storytelling. I think that the techniques that they talk about are very important to being successful in their efforts.
